Job Summary As a Staff Analytical and Characterization Engineer (Chemical and Material Characterization), you will lead the development and maintenance of chemical, material, and physical characterization capabilities. Your role includes failure analysis, data analytics, root‑cause investigation, and the development of innovative processes and automation tools. A licensed chemist, you will manage engineering tasks, mentor technicians, and ensure deliverables meet quality and safety standards. Responsibilities Perform engineering tasks to meet chemical, material, and physical characterization deliverables, including tool operation, data analytics, and automation. Develop methods and innovative characterization processes to sustain required capabilities, applying wet chemistry, spectroscopy, chromatography (RAMAN, SEM‑EDX, GC, IC), and related techniques. Generate technical and executive reports, review, and approve Technician reports. Set objectives and plans, coach and mentor technicians to achieve deliverables. Communicate and engage with the function, department, and site objectives. Communicate with higher management and executives as needed. Apply strong problem‑solving skills to support operations and address analytical challenges. Plan resource availability to run processes efficiently. Support company activities and implementation of policies and programs. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Licensed chemist. Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or Material Science. Minimum 7 years of professional experience in chemical and physical/material laboratory settings. Industry exposure in electronics or semiconductor manufacturing is highly preferred. Master’s degree in a related field is an advantage. Skills and Competencies Strong problem‑solving, critical thinking, analytical skills, and failure analysis. Ability to interpret large data sets into actionable insights. Ability to work collaboratively across cross‑functional teams. Proficiency in data analytics/data science and programming. Adaptability to Western Digital culture.
