Role Description This is a full-time remote role for a Software Engineer – Backend API (Python/ Node.js). We’re looking for a Backend API Developer who loves building scalable, performant, and secure systems. In this role, you’ll design and maintain the APIs that connect data science pipelines, applications, and clients — helping power the analytics that define economic and environmental outcomes. You’ll collaborate across data, DevOps, and software teams to deliver clean, efficient, and resilient backend services. What you'll do Design, build, and maintain RESTful and GraphQL APIs to support data-driven products. Integrate internal and external systems across AWS, Azure, or GCP cloud environments. Develop secure authentication, authorization, and logging mechanisms. Optimize backend services for scalability, reliability, and performance. Collaborate closely with data scientists, engineers, and analysts on end-to-end solutions. Participate in architecture reviews, code reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives. Write clean, testable, and well-documented code following industry best practices. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent experience. 1+ years of backend development experience. Strong proficiency in one or more backend languages — Python and Node.js preferred (Go, Java, or C# also welcome). Experience building APIs in cloud-native environments (AWS Lambda/API Gateway, Azure Functions, GCP Cloud Run). Solid grasp of RESTful principles, web protocols, and JSON/XML. Familiarity with Docker, CI/CD, and modern development workflows. Experience working with relational and NoSQL databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB). Good to have Experience with microservices or event-driven architectures. Knowledge of OAuth2, OpenID Connect, and API security best practices. Familiarity with Terraform or similar infrastructure-as-code tools. Exposure to monitoring and observability platforms (CloudWatch, Prometheus, Grafana).
