HDSI: Emergency Medical Technician

Overview

An EMT, or Emergency Medical Technician, responds to emergency situations by stabilizing patients before taking them to a medical care facility. Core duties include transporting patients to hospitals, driving emergency vehicles safely and quickly responding to calls from Dispatchers. This role is hired under Health Delivery System, Inc. in fixed-term employment.

Responsibilities
  • Respond to emergencies and provide an appropriate level of care.
  • Provide first-aid treatment, such as bandaging wounds.
  • Provide life support care, such as CPR, when needed.
  • Assess a patient’s condition and provide initial treatment.
  • Determine whether a patient needs to go to an ER or a trauma center.
  • Drive emergency vehicles in a safe but efficient manner to the emergency medical facility.
  • Explain the situation to hospital staff and relay the patient’s vitals. Fill out patient reports after care.
  • Document patient information and care provided.
  • Maintain and restock medical equipment and supplies.
Qualifications
  • EMT training/certificate.
  • Preferably NCII certificate; if none, willingness to be trained for this certification.
  • Ability to work long hours without compromising quality of care.
  • Ability to provide care in stressful situations; strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Situational awareness and stress management skills.
  • Computer skills (e.g., Excel).
  • Good communication skills.
