Team Lead, Tax Processing

Role/ Department:

As part of the Custody Tax Operations team, the Team Lead is a key role in International withholding tax processing. Reporting to the Core Operations Manager, responsibilities include ensuring that the team requests, records, and manages Northern Trust's client tax documentation, and accurately identifies, processes, and tracks tax relief at source or reclaims on behalf of Northern Trust's global client base to ensure maximum tax benefits.

The key responsibilities of the role include:

• Manage a team of focused individuals.
• Organize the work of the team, assign tasks, set short-term priorities, monitor all activities, and ensure timely and accurate completion of the work.
• Possess the leadership and organizational skills required to prioritize assignments and provide feedback to staff.
• Manage the operational risk within the entire process through the identification of risk points, adherence to procedures, and ensuring that adequately skilled resources are maintained.
• Ensure tax reclaims are processed in a timely and accurate manner.
• Monitor and close out all queries within required deadlines.
• Engage with Global Sub Custodians and Tax Agents.
• Participate in operational risk assessments.
• Track and monitor all tax technical changes.
• Deliver regular and pertinent MIS to the Management team as required.

Skills/ Qualifications:

• Strong time-management skills with the ability to effectively prioritize tasks for both self and team according to their level of urgency and importance.
• Excellent communication (verbal and written) and organizational skills.
• Fundamental technical knowledge of Tax Operations, gained through significant exposure to business disciplines, operating at a senior level.
• Leadership skills.
• Track record of implementing process improvements.
• Strong awareness of risk management and ability to understand when to escalate issues.
• An understanding of the custodial responsibilities pertaining to withholding tax management.
• Prior tax experience in the Financial Services area would be a distinct advantage.
