Overview

We have multiple opportunities for a Senior Environmental Officer (Assessment) in Emerald within the Environmental Services and Regulation (ESR) division of the Department of the Environment, Tourism, Science and Innovation. The division provides targeted, consistent and transparent regulation that facilitates sustainable development in Queensland. ESR proactively manages and monitors environmental risks through a modern and innovative regulatory framework that includes assessment, compliance, investigation and enforcement programs. ESR also provides extensive frontline services both centrally and regionally.

Responsibilities
  • Contribute to a team delivering regulatory services and environmental assessment, with emphasis on the coal industry.
  • Engage in assessment, compliance, investigation and enforcement programs within a modern regulatory framework.
  • Communicate with influence to community groups and stakeholders; undertake negotiations to resolve complex matters and manage stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to achieve operational deliverables and adapt to rapidly changing contexts through analytical and problem-solving approaches.
Qualifications and skills
  • Understanding of contemporary environmental and regulatory legislation, trends, drivers, and approaches, particularly for the coal industry (or ability to rapidly acquire this knowledge).
  • Experience working as part of a team to achieve operational deliverables in a regulatory service delivery environment.
  • Proven ability to communicate with influence to diverse groups and manage stakeholder negotiations.
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving capability in rapidly changing contexts.
