Overview

As a SDET at Tyler Technologies, you will play a vital role in ensuring that our visionary data management, governance, analysis, and open data publication products work reliably and efficiently at Internet-scale, enabling key policy- and decision-makers to take data-informed actions that improve the communities they serve. We are looking for an experienced, pragmatic, and resolute tester to move our testing practices to the next level: thinking critically about what, when, and how to test; improving existing and building new automation tooling where practical; expanding test coverage; and supporting other testers. We need someone excited about engaging with designers and product owners to ensure requirements are testable, with engineers to ensure their work can be tested, and with release managers so everyone is clear about what’s going out in upcoming releases and is ready to roll. While focused on the future, you will need to be prepared to grab a pick-and-shovel, performing interactive testing to support our releases while instituting change by example and through advocacy for improvements in practices and tooling.

Work Arrangement and Shift

Open to hybrid arrangement with on-site presence required two (2) days per week at the Manila (Taguig) office; reliable home-office connectivity for remote days. Shift requirement of 6:00 AM-3:00 PM Philippines Time.

Responsibilities
  • Move testing practices to the next level by thinking critically about what, when, and how to test; improving existing and building new automation tooling where practical; expanding test coverage; and supporting other testers.
  • Engage with designers and product owners to ensure requirements are testable.
  • Collaborate with engineers to ensure work is testable and with release managers to ensure clarity about upcoming releases.
  • Perform interactive testing to support releases and advocate for improvements in practices and tooling.

  • Have a rich background in testing across a variety of current technologies.
  • Be driven to keep up to date in testing practices and tools, looking for new opportunities for relevant, practical applications in our environment.
  • Be detail-oriented and broad-minded.
  • Know how to advocate successfully for change and not be afraid to have collaborative, hard conversations balancing the organization’s long-term interests with short-term needs.
Qualifications
  • Learning a complex SaaS product with the goal of comprehending it broadly and deeply through experimentation and direct interaction.
  • Working in a large object-oriented codebase.
  • Writing and maintaining automated tests – we use RSpec/Capybara/Selenium for our primary end-to-end test framework.
  • Bash, zsh, or other similar Unix command line tool.
  • Git/GitHub.
  • HTTP protocol and familiarity with REST APIs (and clients for testing, i.e., cURL or Postman).
  • Performing SQL queries
  • Black box testing using browsers’ JS consoles.
  • Developing efficient and context-driven plans for testing.
  • Ticket Management
  • Bug Management
  • SDLC
Bonus points if you are familiar with:
