PhD positions in AI in Medicine Department of Computer Science (DIKU) invites applicants for PhD positions in AI in Medicine. This project is a part of a collaboration between DIKU and Rigshospitalet, financed by the European Research Council. The start date is expected to be or as soon as possible thereafter. Project Overview The project focuses on cancer treatment, including AI‑assisted diagnosis, treatment planning, and outcome prediction. PhD candidates may work on medical image analysis, clinical report analysis, or theoretical aspects of AI in medicine. Collaborations will involve the Department of Radiation Oncology and the Department of Radiology at Rigshospitalet. The research tracks include: Analysis of pre‑RT medical images – annotating patient organs, tumors, and relevant regions to measure dose distribution. Analysis of dose delivery plans – examining longitudinal RT treatments. Analysis of clinical features – investigating patient data and NLP algorithms to assess RT outcomes. Theoretical machine learning development – designing AI algorithms with broad applications. Eye‑tracking in cancer treatment planning – exploring communication interfaces between physicians and computers. Candidate Profile We are looking for motivated candidates with knowledge in computer science, software development proficiency, and experience in machine learning. Option B – Integrated MSc and PhD Programme (up to five years, 3+5 scheme): • Eligible if you hold a Danish bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) but not a master’s. • You will be enrolled simultaneously in an MSc programme and a PhD programme. • Funding details and scholarship terms align with the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations on Academics in the State (AC). Responsibilities and Tasks Complete and pass the MSc education (if integrated programme). Carry out an independent research project under supervision. Complete PhD courses (≈30 ECTS / ½ FTE). Participate in active research environments, including a stay at another research institution. Teaching and knowledge dissemination activities. Write scientific papers for high‑impact journals. Write and defend a PhD thesis based on the project. Qualifications Professional qualifications relevant to the PhD project. Relevant publications. Relevant work experience.
