The Opportunity

We're hiring a Senior Shopify App Developer for a healthcare e-commerce company — owning custom checkout and customer-login integrations on Shopify Plus and building the custom apps behind them. This is a senior, independent role with room to grow into technical lead as the Shopify team scales to 3–4 developers, and to lead a white-label build that powers multiple partner-branded storefronts from one fulfillment backend.

What Your Day-to-Day Will Look Like

• Custom Checkout: Own the custom checkout build, keeping the existing Stripe and IIAS flow inside Shopify so FSA/HSA purchases auto-substantiate with no receipts.
• Customer Login: Integrate a third-party identity provider with Shopify customer accounts through the client's existing auth hub (Azure B2C / OpenID Connect).
• Integration Planning: Scope and sequence the integration workstreams (login, eligibility engine, checkout), then maintain the integrations on a continuous basis.
• Custom Shopify Apps: Build and maintain custom Shopify apps on the Admin, Storefront, Customer Account, and Checkout/Payments APIs.
• Code & Documentation: Read and extend the client's existing TypeScript code, and document decisions so the business team can ship routine changes independently.

What You Bring

• Shopify Experience: 5+ years of Shopify development with at least one shipped custom app on Shopify Plus.
• Custom Checkout: Hands-on custom checkout experience: Checkout Extensions, Payments Apps API, or a payment-provider integration (Stripe preferred).
• TypeScript & Identity: Strong TypeScript / Node.js, and experience integrating a third-party identity provider (OpenID Connect, Azure B2C, or similar).
• Independent Judgment: Can read an unfamiliar codebase, estimate honestly, and make architectural calls without a tech lead above them.
• AI Tools & Availability: Daily use of AI coding tools (Claude, Cursor, Copilot), with US Eastern Time overlap.

Bonus Points if:

• You have HSA/FSA, healthcare e-commerce, or IIAS-certified checkout experience.
• You have migrated from a headless or custom stack (e.g., commercetools, Hydrogen) to standard Shopify.
• You are familiar with Azure B2C or Shopify data-layer and analytics integration.
