About the Role

We are seeking a Lead Data Engineer with a history of building scalable data engineering solutions and the infrastructure to support them in meeting the demands of our growing client base. In this role, you will guide our data engineering strategy, make architectural decisions, and build pipelines to extract customer data.

• Collaborate with OA’s Director of Technology to define and implement the long-term strategy for the data engineering department.

• Drive technology, platform, and architectural decisions to optimize ETL pipelines for performance, resilience, and transparency.

• Develop and maintain Python-based data engineering solutions with a strong understanding of DevOps principles.

• Own and manage the process of moving customer data into the company’s data warehouse.

• Establish internal processes, standards, and guidelines to guide the department’s direction.

• Ensure scalability, reliability, and maintainability of data engineering systems.

• Proactively identify areas for improvement in data infrastructure and workflow efficiency.

Required Technical Skills and Experience

• 4+ years of experience as a data engineer with Python as the primary language

• Strong DevOps skills in a Linux environment, including CI/CD, Git, and containerization (e.g., Docker)

• Experience evaluating and selecting technologies (e.g., Docker, Airflow, Kubernetes) to support scalability and data pipeline orchestration

• Demonstrated ability to define technical standards, internal best practices, and documentation for a growing team

• Bachelor’s degree required

• Ability to work in a fully remote environment (Slack, Zoom)

• Works well with internal stakeholders and can translate needs into technical solutions

• Self-motivated and able to independently structure work time to achieve assigned objectives

• Excited to work in a collaborative team environment with a flat and flexible organizational structure

• Adheres to the utmost ethical standards in preserving confidentiality with client data

• Works effectively with diverse stakeholders including school and district leaders

Other Preferred Skills and Experience

• Required: Willingness to work US standard business hours

• EdTech and/or student data experience

• Experience with BigQuery
