Job description: The Heavy Equipment Mechanic (Hydraulic & Computer Systems Specialist) is responsible for maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing construction equipment to ensure safe and reliable operation at all project sites. The role focuses on hydraulic systems and onboard computer/electronic control units (ECUs), ensuring that all machines—from excavators and loaders to graders and dump trucks—operate at peak performance to support construction activities. Key Responsibilities Conduct inspection, troubleshooting, and repair of hydraulic systems (pumps, valves, cylinders, hoses, motors) used in heavy construction machinery. Diagnose and repair electrical and computer-controlled systems such as sensors, controllers, and onboard diagnostic (OBD/ECU) systems. Perform preventive maintenance based on equipment schedules and manufacturer recommendations to minimize downtime. Use diagnostic software, service laptops, and electronic testing tools to identify issues and perform recalibration as needed. Conduct performance tests after repairs to ensure operational safety and reliability before releasing equipment for site use. Maintain accurate service and repair records for each unit, including parts used and work performed. Coordinate with site engineers and operators regarding recurring equipment problems and recommend corrective actions. Ensure all maintenance and repair work is carried out in compliance with company safety protocols and environmental policies. Provide technical assistance or mentorship to junior mechanics and apprentices on hydraulic and computer diagnostic procedures. Support emergency repair requirements at project sites to minimize equipment downtime. Qualifications Education: Vocational or Technical Certificate in Heavy Equipment Maintenance, Mechatronics, or related field. Additional training or certification in Hydraulics and Electronic Control Systems is preferred. Experience: Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in maintenance and repair of construction heavy equipment. Skills and Competencies: Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills in hydraulic and electrical systems. Proficiency in reading and interpreting wiring diagrams and hydraulic schematics. Skilled in using diagnostic laptops and manufacturer software (e.g., CAT ET, Komatsu DiagTool, etc.). Safety-conscious and detail-oriented. Effective communication and teamwork skills, especially in site-based operations. Physically fit and able to work in field conditions under minimal supervision.
