Universal Robina Corporation Sugar and Renewables is looking for an EHS Officer.

The EHS Officer plays a pivotal role in supervising environmental, health, and safety (EHS) protocols within our Plant operations. This position requires a comprehensive understanding of regulatory mandates, industry standards, and proficient leadership to safeguard our employees, community, and environment.

What are the Roles and Responsibilities?

  1. Environmental Management:
  2. Develop, implement, and enforce robust environmental programs and policies in compliance with local, national regulations, and industry benchmarks.
  3. Process and ensure the accuracy of all permits, licenses, and regulatory documentation, maintaining strict compliance.
  4. Engage with regulatory bodies, industry stakeholders, and community representatives to uphold regulations and fortify community relations.
  5. Health and Safety Management:
  6. Work closely with EHS leadership to develop, implement, and oversee comprehensive health and safety initiatives aligned with local and national regulations and industry standards, ensuring operational compliance.
  7. Provide guidance and support to employees and management on safety protocols, training initiatives, and emergency response procedures, fostering a culture of safety and accountability within the team.
  8. Conduct thorough investigations into incidents, accidents, and near-misses, leading the identification of effective corrective measures to prevent recurrence and enhance safety protocols.
  9. Gather and monitor EHS performance metrics to identify trends, areas for improvement, and opportunities for proactive risk mitigation.
  10. Leadership Support:
  11. Support strategic leadership across all EHS endeavors, fostering a culture of safety, environmental stewardship, and continuous improvement.
  12. Align EHS objectives with overall business strategies, ensuring synergy and integration across departments.
  13. Uphold ethical behavior and accountability, supporting EHS initiatives to drive awareness, engagement, and commitment across organizational levels.
  14. Foster a collaborative and inclusive work environment, encouraging open communication, teamwork, and knowledge sharing to enhance EHS performance.
  15. Documentation and Reporting:
  16. Document and record all EHS-related activities, including audits, inspections, incident investigations, and training sessions.
  17. Prepare and submit timely and comprehensive EHS reports, ensuring strict adherence to regulatory standards to maintain compliance.
  18. Implement efficient procedures for the secure storage, retrieval, and disposal of EHS records, prioritizing data integrity and confidentiality.
  19. Stakeholder Engagement:
  20. Cultivate positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders, serving as a point of contact for EHS-related inquiries and communications.
  21. Address stakeholder concerns promptly and accurately, fostering transparency and mutual respect.
  22. Collaborate with stakeholders to identify common objectives and opportunities for cooperation, contributing to organizational goals.
  23. Sustainability Initiatives:
  24. Contribute to efforts to integrate sustainability principles throughout the organization, focusing on environmental impact reduction, resource conservation, and social responsibility.
  25. Develop strategies to minimize carbon emissions, energy consumption, and waste generation, in alignment with organizational goals.
  26. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and implement initiatives that drive sustainable practices and meet organizational objectives.
  27. Monitor and report on key sustainability metrics, providing updates to senior management and stakeholders.
  28. Encourage employee participation in sustainability initiatives to foster a culture of corporate citizenship, supporting awareness and education efforts.What are the Qualifications?
    1. Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health and Safety, Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or related field.
    2. Minimum of 3 years of experience in environmental, health, and safety management, preferably in plant operations or related industrial settings.
    3. Certification in relevant EHS disciplines is advantageous.
    4. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and EHS management software.
    5. Strong understanding of local and national EHS regulations, including OSHA, and relevant industry standards.
    6. Leadership and communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage and influence stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
    7. Analytical mindset with the ability to identify risks, analyze data, and develop effective mitigation strategies.
    8. Demonstrated ability to manage documentation and records accurately and efficiently.
    9. Experience in stakeholder management and building positive relationships with regulatory agencies, industry associations, and community groups.
