To provide support to the Finance function by managing and overseeing the transactional accounting operations, assisting financial reporting and general accounting and compliance duties for all countries, in addition to leading and developing your direct reports.

  • Liaising with external accountants to complete audit requirements and income tax obligations
  • Providing weekly flash reports to business leaders showing key financial information with commentary
  • Responding to internal and external enquiries in a timely manner, escalating any concerns to the Group Finance Manager

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of finance officers
  • Allocate tasks and responsibilities to ensure efficient workflow
  • Oversee the recording and processing of financial transactions, including bank transactions, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger entries.
  • Ensure all transactions are accurately recorded in a timely manner.
  • Monitor daily accounting operations to ensure compliance with accounting standards and internal controls
  • Completing assigned general ledger and account reconciliations accurately and within the required timeframes
  • Assisting with the preparation of month-end accounts to ensure overall department deadlines are met
  • Updating the cashflow document daily to ensure it remains accurate and up to date at all times.
  • Reconciling lease payments against IFRS lease schedules, working with leasing team and Finance Officer to resolve discrepanciesin a timely manner
  • Leading by example and ensuring the team understand and represent The Big 5

  • Identifying opportunities for process improvements and cost reductions and raising with the Group Finance Manager
  • Assisting with implementation of new systems and processes
  • Assisting the Group Finance Manager with managing the finance team's workflow, planning and allocation of tasks
  • Opportunities to improve financial performance and/or reduce business risks are recommended

  • Streamline accounting procedures to enhance efficiency and accuracy.

  • Ownership of key P&L areas such as IT and marketing, including tracking expenditure at a vendor level, working with business stakeholders to understand cost drivers and ensure all costs are accrued
  • Providing task-related feedback to team members and escalating any feedback to the Group Finance Manager
  • Sharing technical experience and knowledge with the team to develop their skills continually
  • Reviewing the team's work from a technical perspective and providing direction and advice as needed

MEASUREMENTS OF SUCCESS

  • The transactional team consistently meets the deadlines with high standard of output
  • Account reconciliations are completed accurately and within the required timeframes
  • Month-end and year-end reporting deadlines are consistently met
  • All tax and compliance obligations are lodged and paid on time
  • Feedback from stakeholders on support level is consistently positive
  • All transactions are completed in a timely and accurate manner
