Financial Data Analyst

Job Summary:
The Financial Data Analyst will be responsible to create dashboards, generate reports, automate month-end processes, and perform variance analysis. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in business analytics, experience with financial systems, and the ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences.

Roles and Responsibilities:

• Automate month-end processes and reconciliations.
• Research, analyze, and identify sources of variances compared to projections and prior periods.
• Recommend correcting entries when needed to support the general ledger team.
• Transform data into information and insight that can be used to make informed business decisions.
• Set up and maintain automated business processes to support internal reporting of revenue and expenses, enabling in-depth analysis of financial profit and loss at the cost-center (department or organization) and/or academic program level.
• Create data warehouse reports, design interactive dashboards and visualizations, and produce and track key performance indicators (KPIs).
• Extract, cleanse, modify, and analyze large datasets to assist management in decision making.
• Work with the university's Office of Institutional Research, Information Technology Services, and other areas to ensure financial data is accurate and consistent across university systems and reporting technologies.
• Determine root causes for problems of data integrity identified through the quality assurance process or by business report owners/users.
• Work closely with Information Technology Services to research, recommend, and implement new technologies for the Office of the Chief Financial Officer.
• Continuously maintain data governance standards and contribute ideas and suggestions to improve data systems and processes.
• Support the Business Office team during audits of the university's financial statements by providing data and information.
• Maintain documentation and procedures for assigned area of work.
• Other duties may be assigned.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in business analytics, accountancy, or a similar field.
• At least one (1) year of experience in financial analysis.
• Must have stable employment history.
• Experience utilizing Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and Teams or comparable software.
• Solid understanding of GAAP, with the capability to apply these principles to ensure compliance and accuracy in financial reporting and analysis.
• Strong analytical skills to review and dissect code and complex calculations, identify the root causes of errors, and develop effective solutions to correct and prevent future issues.
• Clear and coherent in both verbal and written communication skills for effective interactions with stakeholders at all levels, including technical team members and non-technical business partners.
• Meticulous attention to detail and precision when handling financial data, ensuring all information is accurate and reliable, which is critical for making informed business decisions.
• Good organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously, with the ability to prioritize workload effectively and work autonomously to meet deadlines.
• Strong interpersonal skills to build and sustain productive working relationships with colleagues, management, and external partners, fostering a collaborative and supportive work environment.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a remote or hybrid team, utilizing digital communication tools and maintaining productivity and engagement in a flexible work environment.
• Competence in documenting business processes thoroughly and clearly, ensuring that procedures are easily understood and can be followed by others, contributing to process consistency and improvement.
• Proactive approach to following up on outstanding issues and inquiries, demonstrating persistence and initiative to gather necessary information and implement effective solutions.

Desired Qualifications: (not required)

• Master's degree in Business Analytics or a similar field and/or three (3) years of experience.
• Technical knowledge in writing SQL queries and a foundational understanding of relational databases.
• Experience utilizing an ERP system for accounting (such as Ellucian, Banner, PeopleSoft, Oracle, or other comparable enterprise software)
• Knowledge of the principles and practices of data and accounting reconciliation; experience independently preparing and/or reviewing reconciliations for accuracy.
• Experience in financial planning and analysis.
• Experience writing reports in a database and/or data warehouse.
• Experience with Microsoft Power BI (or comparable software) to create dashboards and dataflows.
