The EEAM2 MTI unit covers work in 17 countries within the East Asia and Pacific Region, including the Indonesia, Philippines, and the Pacific Country Management Units (CMU).

Roles and Responsibilities


We are seeking to recruit a seasoned and highly qualified candidate for the position of Senior Country Economist for the Philippines.

The Philippines MTI team also comprises of an economist and a research analyst.


You would report to the MTI Practice Manager (Based in Bangkok) and, in coordination with EFI Program Leader, lead the MTI program for the Philippines and day-to-day supervision of the MTI team and program.

You would lead DPOs, core ASAs and Just-in-Time engagements on key economic policy topics.


The FY25 MTI work program includes: (1) Country Economic Memorandum, (2) Public Finance Review and (3) bi-yearly Philippines Economic Update; (4) Economic Reform DPO (tentative).

This is a high-profile position within the Philippines country team. The Senior Economist engages regularly with other GPs on substantive topics. They build and maintain networks across key economic agencies.

The Senior Economist works and leads on cutting edge policy issues in a large emerging market economy in the EAP region.

MTI Philippines work has great visibility within the region and across the Bank.

Note:

If the selected candidate is a current Bank Group staff member with a Regular or Open-Ended appointment, s/he will retain his/her Regular or Open-Ended appointment.

All others will be offered a 4-year term appointment.

Selection Criteria

  • Minimum of a Master's degree in Economics with eight years of relevant professional experience (A completed PhD is equivalent to 3 years of relevant professional experience).
  • Strong technical skills on macro-fiscal and growth issues and accomplishment of producing high-quality and technically sophisticated analytical work.
  • Strong operational and policy dialogue skills, as evidenced by a proven track record in delivering excellent Development Policy Operations.
  • Strong integrative skills in order to support the CMU in articulating its critical thinking on economic growth and poverty reduction and to articulate a coherent policy dialogue with the authorities.
  • Proven sense of initiative, results orientation, collaboration and leadership qualities, and ability to work effectively across sectors/GPs.
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to speak persuasively and to present ideas clearly and concisely with senior authorities.
