Better with Water Philippines, (BWW Philippines) a Filipino non-profit organization, created by the French NGO Eau & Vie is active in the Philippines in the livelihood development of Urban Slum dwellers implementing Water Network, Firefighting, Hygiene promotion, Sanitation and Solid waste management activities.

BWW Philippines has an NGO department (Water and Life or W&L) which works in close association with the social business company Tubig Pag Asa (TPA), created by Eau & Vie, specialized in water supply in urban slums of the Philippines, aiming at creating quality-controlled piped and metered water supply networks which are financially viable, socially responsible and adapted to the needs of urban poor.

Both the NGO and SE engaged in partnerships with the local communities, authorities, water operator and other development stakeholders through three branches in Cebu, Cavite and Leyte.

With Research Coordinator, Research Officers and all the managers of NGO and SE, BWW Bangladesh, BWW Headquarters in France

I. Responsibility

As GIS Officer working in the Head Office, her/his responsibility shall include but not limited to the following:

Gather, compile, migrate, and convert data from both internal and external sources and evaluate data quality and reliability.

  • Digitizes contextual information when necessary, and ensures that there are no typological errors in the data..
  • Assist RC in demographic and socio-economic data gathering and remote sensing analysis for new branch site selection.
  • Develop thematic maps (or area suitability maps) for on-site visits (ocular) or new branch pipeline planning.
  • Collaborate with water operator GIS specialists to conduct a pipeline network review
  • Conduct detailed field mapping for areas under detailed surveys in support of the research team.
  • Maintains metadata that documents information about the internal dataset, and ensures proper projections are used.(WGS 84)
  • Support BWW local offices/branches in collecting data, analysis, and communication/delivery, which includes performing spatial analysis (vector analysis/geoprocessing/attribute field calculations when necessary.
  • Generate maps that illustrate conditions of BWW's areas of intervention or of potential new intervention areas, as well as maps that illustrate updates to BWW's
  • Support the organization in upskilling BWW staff with the use of GIS software/s (QGIS Training).
  • Ensure back-up of files.
  • Contribute to updating of the organization QGIS Manual.
  • Support the research team in pre-ocular stage of development, surveys and baselines.
  • Follow up the team prospections news to report the evolutions in the mapping.
  • Analyse and aggregate data to support operations of SE and NGO

As GIS Officer will also be responsible for support research related activity such as:

  • Support RO in documenting studies and workshops as needed.
  • Arrange and coordinate and document HO initiated studies with RO in area of studies. Coordinate logistics arrangement on studies/researches.
  • Documentation for the general M&E Meetings

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Geography, Geodetic Engineering, Geology, Geomatics Engineering, Information Technology or other related field
    • Not required but an advantage. Open to fresh graduates in the related filed.

Experience:

  • Demonstrated proficiency in utilizing GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS/QGIS/Manifold GIS) for data management, analysis, and interpretation.
  • Knowledge in cartographic design and production
  • Relevant experience in database management, administration, and/or utilization of various GIS software/applications is preferred but not required.
  • Knowledge or experience in utilizing SQL queries in a GIS environment is a plus
  • Knowledge of Openstreetmap (contribution and data extraction) is a plus.
