We are currently seeking a high caliber professional to join our team as an Senior Vice President and Senior Legal Counsel –Markets & Securities Services and Wholesale Banking.

Role Purpose

The main focus of the job holder is to act and discharge the responsibilities of Senior Legal Counsel for Markets & Securities Services and Wholesale Banking, and their associated global functions in the Philippines.

In this role, you will:

  • Provide specialist counsel and support to the Markets and Securities Services and Wholesale Banking businesses, and their associated global functions (e.g., Wholesale Risk, Regulatory Compliance, FCR, and the like) particularly in structured products, debt capital markets transactions, project finance, financial derivatives, and corporate finance, and ensuring that commercially sensitive and pragmatic legal advice is provided in a cost-effective manner, and partnering with the business to give top quality and forward-looking advice.
  • Be a trusted legal adviser to the Bank and its subsidiaries as subject matter expert on Data Privacy, Competition Law, Mergers & Acquisitions, Intellectual Property Rights, and Financial Crime Risks, and protect HSBC's reputation by effectively helping "future-proof" the organisation.
  • Maintain and develop positive and professional working relationships with all team members within HBAP LGA PH, and the global businesses and functions for which the jobholder is principally responsible
  • Participate effectively in industry associations (BAP and MART) as part of the HBAP MNL Team.
  • Provide legal services in a cost-effective manner
  • Co-ordinate and manage the approach to legal risk in HBAP MNL, particularly Global Markets & Securities Services and Wholesale Banking, to ensure that the interests of the HSBC Group are adequately protected
  • Assist the business to remain compliant with legal risk management requirements set out in the Group Standards Manual and Legal FIM.

To be successful in this role, you should meet the following requirements:

  • The role requires the jobholder to be a qualified lawyer with at least eight (8) years of work experience.
  • Specialized knowledge and relevant experience in ISDA derivatives documentation, ISDA CSA, GMRA, and GMSLA documentation, structured products, debt capital markets, and project/corporate finance, though not required, is an advantage.
  • Relevant international work experience.
  • Excellent analytical skills, good interpersonal skills so as to effectively communicate with stakeholders and senior management of the Bank, and decisiveness in resolving issues.
  • The jobholder must likewise have the maturity and experience to deal with high-pressure situations in the course of the discharge of his functions.
