Security (Information & Communication Technology)

SOC analysts continuously monitor network traffic, system logs, and security alerts to identify potential security incidents. Experienced with the use of Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS),Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) tools, and other security solutions to detect anomalies or signs of unauthorized access.

When a security incident occurs, SOC analysts investigate and respond promptly.

They analyze the incident, assess its impact, and take necessary actions to mitigate risks.

This may involve isolating affected systems, blocking malicious traffic, and coordinating with other teams.

SOC analysts stay informed about the latest threats, vulnerabilities, and attack techniques.

They analyze threat intelligence feeds, security bulle0ns, and reports to understand emerging risks.

Vulnerability Management:

SOC analysts assess vulnerabilities in the organization's systems and applications.

They prioritize vulnerabilities based on severity and work with IT teams to apply patches or implement mitigations.

Log Analysis and Forensics:

SOC analysts review system logs, network traffic, and security events to identify patterns or indicators of compromise.

They perform forensic analysis to understand the root cause of incidents.

Security Incident Documentation:

SOC analysts maintain detailed records of security incidents, including their investigation process, findings, and actions taken.

Documentation is essential for compliance, reporting, and future reference.

Collaboration with Other Teams:

SOC analysts work closely with network administrators, system administrators, and other security teams. They share information, coordinate incident response, and provide recommendations for improving security posture.

SOC analysts participate in tabletop exercises, simula0ons, and training sessions to enhance their skills. They contribute to refining incident response processes and improving security policies.

Educational Background:

A bachelor's degree in any related field preferably Computer Science, Information Technology. Some organizations may consider candidates with relevant experience in network operations or helpdesk support, especially if they hold certifications.

Cybersecurity Knowledge:

Familiarity with prevalent cyber threats, such as malware, phishing attacks, and DDoS attacks, is crucial. Understanding of network security and computer forensics is essential.

Technical Skills:

Networking Concepts: Including knowledge of TCP/IP, routing, and switching. Cybersecurity Best Practices: Understanding of security techniques, tools, and practices.

Coding and Database Languages: Proficiency in relevant programming languages and database management.

Firewall Management and Intrusion Detection Systems: Ability to configure and manage firewalls and detect intrusions.

Familiarity with Windows, Linux, and UNIX operating systems. Familiarity with CrowdStrike, Trellix and any related software.

Soft Skills:

Collaboration: Effective teamwork and communication with colleagues and other departments. Critical Thinking: The ability to examine facts and form judgments.

Inquisitive Mind: Curiosity to explore and learn about systems and security tools. Strong Fundamental Skills: Attention to detail and multitasking abilities.

Ability to Work Under Pressure: SOC analysts often face high-pressure situations.

Certifications:

Certified SOC Analyst(CISA): A valuable certification specifically focused on SOC operations and incident handling.

Other industry-standard certifications like CompTIA Security+, CompTIA CySA+, CISSP, and CEH are also beneficial.

Experiences:

Mid-level SOC analysts with 3 to 5 years of experience.

They are expected to handle more complex tasks, analyze security incidents, and contribute to incident response efforts.
