BASIC FUNCTION

A Staff Nurse Associate (SNA) is an under-board nurse in the Out-Patient Department (OPD) is a healthcare professional who provides essential nursing care and support to patients under the supervision of registered nurses and physicians. With a strong foundation in nursing knowledge and skills, under board nurses assist in various aspects of patient care, including conducting initial assessments, collecting vital signs, assisting with procedures, administering medications, and providing patient education.

SNA play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of the OPD by collaborating with the healthcare team, maintaining accurate documentation, adhering to infection control protocols, and prioritizing patient safety and well-being. Under board nurses demonstrate dedication, compassion, and professionalism in their interactions with patients and contribute significantly to delivering high-quality healthcare services in the outpatient setting

PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Patient Assessment:

Conducts initial patient assessments, inciuding obtaining vital signs, medical history, and chief complaints, to assist in determining the urgency of patient needs and priorities.

2. Triage and Prioritization:

Participates in patient triage processes to assess the severity of patient conditions and prioritize appointments or interventions accordingly, ensuring timely access to care for those with urgent needs.

3. Patient Triage:

Prioritizes patient appointments based on the urgency of their condition. Ensures that those in need of immediate care are attended to promptly.

4. Patient Education:

Provides health education to patients and their families regarding their conditions, treatments, medications, and self-care techniques, as well as answering questions and addressing concerns to promote patient understanding and compliance.

5. Assisting Healthcare Providers:

Supports physicians and other healthcare providers during patient examinations, procedures, and treatments by preparing examination rooms, assisting with equipment setup, and providing patient care assistance as needed.

6. Patient Advocacy:

Advocates for patient's needs and rights, addressing concerns or complaints and ensuring that patients receive compassionate and respectful care throughout their healthcare journey.

7. Patient Monitoring:

Observes and monitors patients for changes in condition, vital signs, and response to treatments or medications, and reporting any concerns or abnormalities to the appropriate healthcare provider.

8. Documentation

Maintains accurate and thorough documentation of patient assessments, interventions, responses, and other pertinent information in electronic health records (EHR) or paper charts, ensuring completeness and compliance with regulatory standards.

9. Infection Control:

Adheres to infection control practices, including hand hygiene, use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and proper handling and disposal of contaminated materials, to minimize the risk of healthcare[1]associated infections.

10. Collaboration and Communication:

Collaborates with interdisciplinary healthcare team members, including nurses, physicians, allied health professionals, and administrative staff, to facilitate effective communication and coordination of patient care activities, as well as participating in team meetings and discussions to ensure continuity of care.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • BSN Graduate
  • Computer literate (MS Office)
  • Speaks English and Filipino fluently, with effective communication skills, both oral and written.
  • With at least 6 months' work experience in a hospital setting.
