Drainage Engineer

The primary role of the Drainage Engineer is to perform engineering duties in planning and designing of drainage structures for roads, railways, bridges, site developments, and other infrastructure projects. Primarily, the Drainage Engineer will prepare drainage designs for the Transport Projects, under the direction of the Senior Drainage Engineer/Project Manager. In addition, the role includes related civil engineering tasks and constantly developing technical knowledge.

Key Responsibilities

• Work closely with the Senior Drainage Engineer/Project Manager to investigate, analyse and design effective drainage systems for transport infrastructure projects.
• Use of analysis software such as HEC-Ras for undertaking hydrological and hydraulic assessments as a part of the design process
• Inspect project sites and make detailed investigations to assess and identify and plan drainage requirements
• Collate relevant data from organisations (PAGASA, DENR, DPWH, DOST, LGUs etc.) as required for drainage designs and analyse relevant survey reports, maps, drawings, aerial photography, or other topographical data as required
• Prepare preliminary and detailed design of drainage systems (urban and rural environments) in accordance with DPWH and DENR Standards and requirement and any other applicable standards and specifications, including statutory government requirements
• Check and ensure effective interfacing and compatibility of the drainage systems with all other components of the design (structures, buildings, roads, railway system etc)
• Prepare clear and concise reports outlining design methodology, assessments undertaken, providing recommendations supported by detailed calculations
• Work closely with CAD staff in the preparation of design drawings, checking of design outputs and drawings, marking up corrections and verification of final drawings
• Sign and seal of drainage designs and drawings.
• Assist in the preparation of Specifications and Bills of Quantities as required.

Key Qualifications

• Recognised Degree in Civil Engineering.
• At least 5 years' experience as a Civil Engineer, specialising in drainage design, on transport related infrastructure projects, preferably highways or railways in the Philippines geographic footprint and/or internationally.
• A detailed understanding of DPWH and other local drainage design standards and requirements.
• Demonstrated expertise in using drainage design software (HEC-Ras).
• Ability to communicate (verbal and in writing) effectively in English to furnish technical reports and to assist with the preparation of business development materials including proposals.
• Proven ability to work independently and as a member of a team and to prioritise own work load to meet tight deadlines.
• Excellent interpersonal skills.
• Desire and willingness to learn and work in a dynamic environment.
